The online space is the place where everything happens, including monetary transactions and information. Chances are you want to stay up to date with changes on the stock market, and there are various applications capable of such operations. For instance, AmiQuote comes with the means to help you update stock data for AmiBroker.

One first note is that AmiQuote is included in AmiBroker, so it’s not necessary to grab it if you’re already using the latter application. In fact, this program can be used as stand-alone, but only if AmiBroker is also on your computer, otherwise downloaded stock data can be used in any way, or even associated with the main database.

As far as the interface is concerned, the application wraps all its features in an intuitive overall design. Most of the space is where you view and add tickers and their corresponding status, while the upper toolbar holds the majority of functions. You can choose to manually add tickers one by one, or to automatically update AmiBroker database by attempting to find and download all stock tickers.

Depending on how data is used, the application lets you select the source of information. A drop-down menu holds all sources, such as Yahoo! Historical, current, fundamental, intraday, Google finance and intraday, Forex, or MSN historical.

Apart from the source, you can also select the date range of stock data to be downloaded, and whether or not to automatically import when done. A double-click operation on a ticker opens its details in Notepad. You can choose which tickers to keep and process, and there’s even a tool to translate symbols.

To sum it up, AmiQuote might not be of much help as a stand-alone program. However, it perfectly integrates into AmiBroker to provide a fast way of downloading and updating ticker information for your project database, doing so with little effort on your behalf.
