Avira Internet Security Suite represents Avira's security solution that fights off all forms of malware, including viruses, Trojans, spyware and adware.
It's the version that overcomes Antivirus Pro and precedes Total Protection Suite. The 2016 edition brings support for managing all supported devices from a centralized UI accessible on the web.
The full package contains an antivirus engine and protection modules dedicated to web browsers, file downloads and email attachments, and online shopping.
The installation procedure takes a long time. While the Antivirus Pro component is mandatory, the remaining ones are optional, so they can be excluded from setup: a browser extension that blocks infected websites and tracking activity, an anti-theft module that helps you find your lost or stolen smart devices, as well as an identity safeguard that notifies you if your emails were leaked in third-party security breaches. The optional tools can be later installed.
Wrapped in a user-friendly UI that keeps all security components separated into different tabs, each module can be deactivated and re-enabled with one click from the overview section: real-time protection, firewall, web and mail protection, safe browsing (requires another installation), and game mode (to disable notifications when working with other apps in full screen).
Avira is capable of looking into local drives or the entire disks, removable and network locations, active processes only, My Documents, and so on, depending on the user's preferences and time willing to spend waiting for the search to finish. As far as the scan behavior goes, users are given a wide range of options to tinker with, such as file extensions to take into account, master boot sectors, the Windows registry, symbolic links, exceptions, and scanner priority level.
Avira Internet Security Suite integrates a tool that enables users to encrypt files and prevent other people from accessing private information, along with a component that removes junk data to free up space. A special module helps parents monitor the activity of their children on Facebook to protect them from questionable websites, while the mail protection component evaluates messages sent and received via the default client to weed out the dangerous ones.
Avira delivers very good results when it comes to malware detection, scanning speed, real-time response time, and memory usage. When also taking into consideration the extra safety measures for ensuring PC privacy, Avira Internet Security Suite turns out to be an excellent all-round av solution that should be at least tested by users.
