Bitdefender Client Security facilitates anti-malware security to a network of computers at home or at work. It includes a management console that permits administrators to centralize remote installations, configure settings and generate reports.
During the setup procedure, you can choose which components to install between the management server and console, along with the update server, as well as pick the server that best suits your needs: "single" represents the unique management server within a defined network, "master" only manages servers within a multi-server enterprise network, while "slave" means a server administered by a master server.
"Single" and "master" modes require you to indicate server, agent and console ports, while in "slave" mode you have to enter the master server. The update server port can be established as well. Plus, for the management server you can either install SQL Server Express (the 2005 edition) or use an existing database.
The console has a user-friendly interface with a neatly organized structure, where you can get an overview on all PCs when it comes to antivirus events, email filters, the updates and network status, product deployment, assigned policies progress, license and password status, as well as the most active threats.
When it comes to the "slave" deployments, you can view the managed, unmanaged and excluded PC in separate areas, add any selected machine to the exclusion list or immediately install the av product on it.
The last mentioned action can be put in motion by notifying the user before and after deployment, without the user interface, and by pinging the target beforehand to check the connectivity status. Moreover, you can enable retry deployment in case the operation fails, prompt the user for PC restart if necessary or perform this action automatically, as well as enter the name or IP address of the management server.
The software application also lets you view policies and create new ones concerning advanced, antispam, antivirus, firewall and update settings, device scanning, exclusions, privacy control, scan policy, the main active modules, update requests, or user control.
Several network utilities are put at your disposal, giving you the possibility to create various network tasks, like PC shutdown or restart, listing the currently active processes or startup programs or obtaining system information, but also to build and schedule network audit reports for various operations, such as comparisons, historical data, current shares, disk information, together with installed software and hotfixes.
The program worked smoothly in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or display error messages. It carried out operations swiftly while remaining light on system resources consumption.
Taking everything into account, Bitdefender Client Security proves to be a reliable asset to a network of computers looking for all-round anti-malware protection that can be managed from a central machine.
