DVD Ripper to AVI is a simple-to-use and straightforward piece of software that lets you create an Audio Video Interleave file (AVI format) from a DVD movie. It can be handled even by users with little or no experience in video conversion programs.

The installation procedure is quick and uneventful, without demanding any special input from the user. DVD Ripper to AVI's interface is based on a single window with a plain layout that's clearly outdated. We must take into account that DVD Ripper to AVI has not been updated for a very long time.

Loading a DVD clip into the working environment is done using the file browser only, since the "drag and drop" functionality is unsupported. After you establish the output directory and AVI file name, you can proceed with the conversion procedure.

Before doing so, you may be interested in configuring some settings. For instance, you can select the speed, captions, screen type, width and height, codec, audio language, pieces and temporary directory, as well as make the app automatically power off the computer when the task is done.

During the encoding procedure, you can check out the elapsed time, end time and estimated time remaining, along with a progress bar. The main frame stays on top of other applications, and you cannot change this option.

DVD Ripper to AVI may take a long while to carry out a video conversion task, depending on the movie's size and selected settings. Considering it has not been updated for a very long time, the app is not very stable on newer Windows editions. For example, it froze several times during the encoding job in our evaluation. The image and sound streams of the output AVIs have a fair quality.
