Formerly known as Nucleus Kernel Word Document Repair Software, Kernel for Word is a lightweight tool that focuses on repairing corrupt Microsoft Word files. It supports DOC, DOT, DOCX, DOCM, DOTX and DOCM.

The app comes with a user-friendly interface and intuitive layout. Documents can be imported into the file list by using either the file browser or 'drag and drop' functionality. Working with multiple items at the same time is possible.

The file queue displays the location of each item. Once you specify the output directory for the soon-to-be-recovered items, you can initialize the procedure.

Additionally, you can remove an item from the list or clear the entire file queue, as well as open the output directory when all tasks are done.

Kernel for Word runs on a moderate amount of CPU and system memory, in order to complete a task in reasonable time. It has a good response time and contains user documentation. We have not come across any difficulties during our evaluation; Kernel for Word did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs.

On the other hand, the app was unsuccessful in its attempt to copy images and graphics in our testing. Plus, it somehow managed to scramble characters in the output files. Kernel for Word does not comes with any configuration options; for example, you cannot make the tool automatically open the output directory after the repairing procedure. No recent updates have been made.
