MANTAV Antivirus is a free security application designed to help you protect your computer from all kinds of Internet perils, such as viruses, Trojans and worms. It features a real-time guard, quarantine manager, alarms, and scan configuration options.

Before proceeding any further, you should know that this is an old application that hasn't been updated for a very long time and it remained in beta development stage, so it cannot protect your PC from malware using up-to-date virus definitions.

After a fast and uncomplicated setup operation, MANTAV Antivirus creates an icon in the system tray area at startup and automatically turns on its real-time guard to block incoming threats. You can disable it anytime, though.

By bringing up the main window, you can check out options available for the scanner, quarantine, guard and general settings, in addition to tools.

MANTAV Antivirus lets you scan any drive or directory on the spot, showing total scanned files and folders, along with suspicious files. On threat detection, it lists the name, type, action and full path of the file, giving you the possibility to send the items to the quarantine for further inspection, or to directly remove them from the PC.

In the quarantine manager you can either permanently delete files, restore them to their original location on the disk, or move them to a specific folder.

By default, MANTAV Antivirus prompts you for action whenever it finds suspicious files. You can ask it to automatically quarantine, delete or ignore them, though. What's more, you can change the alarm time, include the system directory in th scans, use heuristics, fix registry values, repair hidden documents, make the app's frame stay on top of other windows, and adjust its transparency level.

It's also possible to disable the safeguard from automatically running at every Windows startup, as well as to find out the last virus it found (suspected, location, action).

The tool didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, running on low CPU and RAM. It carried out scan jobs pretty fast. However, since it's such an old security tool, it can no longer be trusted. On top of that, MANTAV Antivirus froze every time we attempted to access the "Tools" section.
