OSHI Defender is an intuitive malware scanner designed to spot suspicious autorun entries, browser add-ons, DNS servers, and any modifications made to the Hosts file. It features cloud-based scanning to help you protect your privacy and regain your computer's stability by repairing these kinds of issues.
Following a speedy setup operation, OSHI Defender adds itself to the Windows autostart sequence automatically, which means that it runs every time you turn on your computer to perform scans. It also gets integrated into the systray, creating an icon that provides quick access to an on-demand scan, configuration settings, and exit.
As for the interface, the vulnerability scanner has an attractive main window with a dark appearance and neatly structured options, making it easy to figure out how OSHI Defender can be controlled. A scan is automatically started when launching OSHI Defender for the first time, in order to get an assessment of your system's current protection status.
If found, threats are sorted by severity (such as low or high level) but they can also be sorted by category, type or name. In addition to the threat name and category, there is no other information provided. For example, it's not possible to tell which files are considered dangerous because their paths aren't displayed.
With the click of a button, OSHI Defender promises to fix all problems by deleting the corresponding files. Alternatively, you can pick any one file to delete, ignore or exclude from future scans and prevent the app from deleting it. However, since there are no useful file descriptions aside from a web address that, in some cases, might be enough to be recognized and trusted by the users, we doubt that most would be curious enough to conduct own investigations and find out if files are worth keeping.
Files sent to the quarantine can be later examined to decide whether you want to permanently remove them from the computer or restore them to their original location on the disk. Moreover, you can disable daily and background scans, prevent the tool from uploading files to the cloud and from sending additional information about the threats.
It's also possible to remove files from the exclusion list or add new ones as well as choose the severity level from low (applications or settings you should pay attention to), medium (potentially dangerous programs or critical system changes) and high (programs identified by Cloud Antivirus as dangerous).
The tool detected many browser-related issues in our tests. It performed scans fast while remaining light on system resources consumption. Thanks to its attractive interface and straightforward options, OSHI Defender can be used by anyone interested in adding an extra layer of protection to their computers.
