VirusKeeper represents an antivirus and anti-spyware system that comprises multiple powerful modules for ensuring the security of your computer, including a real-time shield.

The interface of the application is made from a clean and intuitive window, where you can toggle VirusKeeper's status and view the current protection level, along with the last time of the antivirus and anti-spyware analysis.

A behavioral scan mode looks for active viruses, spyware and malware in critical areas of the PC (e.g. Registry, active processes in memory, system folders and new files, web browser integrity), after which you can complement it with a thorough antivirus or anti-spyware scan.

The virus signature scan can be carried out in three modes - quickly (at-risk and system files), fully (all files), deeply (all files thoroughly), or custom (a set of user-defined files). With either of these modes enabled, you can make VirusKeeper scan all running processes as well. Once an infected file has been found, the program can either prompt the user for action or automatically delete it, depending on which setting you prefer.

The anti-spyware module evaluates your system in detail, identifies and eliminates all spyware-type agents and malware, like toolbars and other web browser components. You can also view a list of found cookies on your PC and delete them. Instead of deleting infected files, you have the possibility of sending them to quarantine or adding them to an ignore list; log details are shown to the user.

The real-time shield is able to run in normal, game or notebook mode; the latter two ones provide low resources consumption. This module can protect system files, directories and Internet Explorer, monitor the Registry and I/O ports, scan active processes and new or suspicious files automatically, detect spyware in real-time mode, as well as provide protection for instant messenger services.

Other tools of VirusKeeper include a process watcher (for running processes, loaded drives, services, autorun programs, and third-party browser components), net watcher (for programs connected to the Internet or network), and program reporter (creates a report of autorun processes and apps in TXT or HTML). Plus, you can schedule a one-time or regular scan job (virus-only, spyware-only, or both) and select the scan type, as well as password-protect VirusKeeper from unauthorized users.

The application is indeed forgiving when it comes to system resources consumption, especially when the real-time shield is enabled in game or notebook mode. We haven't come across issues throughout our tests. One last important aspect to mention is that the program can run alongside other protection applications, like firewalls and scanners. It's unfortunate that it has not been updated for a long time, otherwise VirusKeeper should please all users.
