Asiva Selection is an Adobe Photoshop plugin that can create color gradient selections in 8 or 16 bit image files.

For 16-bit files, Asiva Selection creates a gradient selection without having to create an 8-bit duplicate file and transferring a selection. This will save you enormous amounts of time with larger files. It can provide more precise control over selections than Photoshop's built in color range selection.
