Files on your computer might seem to disappear for no reason, but there’s always something behind this mystery, and it can even be your own fault. Regardless of the reasons, there are various specialized applications that can scan drives and attempt to recover deleted files, and Emergency Undelete is among your choices.

On the visual side of things, the application stores all of its features in a classic window style that doesn’t pose any accommodation problems, not even to beginners. A couple of input fields are at your disposal in order to specify name of target item and location to look in, a list with detected items, as well as trigger buttons you need for the process.

You’re probably tricked by the Name field, which more or less forces you to remember the name of the file you want to recover. Luckily, leaving it blank and simply selecting the location scans it for all files it can find. Moreover, you can use wildcards to narrow down search through extensions, in case the name doesn’t really come to mind.

Location can be both fixed and removable storage devices, NTFS and FAT alike. A drop-down menu lets you select from previous search location, while a browse dialog is there to help you pick a new one. There’s also an option to include subfolders in the process.

Pressing Search puts the whole process in motion, which can take some time, depending on the size of the scanned location, as well as its state. All detected items are then displayed in a list along with details like name, size, date modified, and original location.

After selecting the files you want to recover, pressing undelete files only requires you to choose a location to save them. Unfortunately, the detection rate leaves a bit more to be desired, and if the disk has been written many times, chances are the file remains forever lost.

On an ending note, Emergency Undelete is a straightforward recovery solution for files you just removed by mistake. Sure enough, it also locates older ones, but only if the drive didn’t undergo heavy processing in the meantime, or any maintenance. Accommodation is easy thanks to the simple design, while the one-window scan and recover process gets the job done in a jiffy.
