Viewfoldersize is a Windows Explorer add-on that allows users to view folder size as they browse hard disk content.

Besides the fact that it can quickly show the size of any folder right into Windows Explorer, Viewfoldersize also comes with multiple configuration options, most of which concern the way the app integrates into Windows.

For example, you can customize the “SizeEx” column settings by choosing a different title, view style, size units, digit grouping and decimals digits.

Furthermore, you can enable cache, which is quite a handy feature given the fact that it could help the app display folder size a lot faster. A reset cache button is included too and so is a dedicated option to start cache with Windows.

Viewfoldersize may slow down older workstations, as we experienced a moderate CPU usage during our testing, especially when loading folders with lots of subdirectories. Of course, Viewfoldersize needs some time to calculate the size of each item, so during this time the machine is stressed up a little bit.

On the other hand, the amount of configuration options is acceptable and definitely helps users tweak the app to better fit their own file viewing style.

All things considered, Viewfoldersize is an interesting project that brings users a feature many would expect to find in Windows as standard. It requires only basic computer knowledge, but a moderate CPU usage was experienced during our testing, so older machines may be slowed down a little bit.
