Learning a foreign language can be a difficult task, at times, since it involves large amounts of information that you often need to assimilate in a short time.

Although you can rely on traditional methods, such as textbooks, pen and paper, turning to specialized software can yield faster and better results. One of the applications that can help you in the situation above is World of Words.

This program allows you to learn new words in an efficient manner, by relying exclusively on pictures. It comes with an intuitive, yet quite outdated user interface that allows you to access its functions without difficulty.

Despite its simplicity, World of Words comes with a handy help guide that provides you additional information about each of the application's capabilities. Accessing it can be achieved by clicking the Notes button at the bottom of the main window.

This program comes with a wide variety of image collections that allow you to enhance your English vocabulary skills. All of the entries are organized into three columns: “Home and Family”, “Education and Leisure” and “Out and About”.

Clicking a sub-category displays numerous pictures on the main window and hovering your mouse pointer over each one of them reveals a different word. This feature allows you to memorize words by associating them with images.

Aside from the functions mentioned above, this application allows you to test your abilities by providing you with three different modules.

The Quiz button asks you to select the image that fits with a given word and instantly offers you feedback after each response. The Test module has a similar function, but asks you 25 questions and provides you with feedback at the end of the last question. However, the Write button comes with a different operation mode, as it points out an image and requires you to write the corresponding word.

To wrap it up, World of Words is a lightweight application that can help you learn new words by associating them with pictures, thus enhancing your English vocabulary in an easy way. However, note that it comes with a rather outdated user interface.
